Casas de Hualdo is awarded for the second year in a row and receives the prize Alimentos de España to the best EVOO of harvest 2014-2015 with monovarietal Arbequina Casas de Hualdo, in the category Mature Fruity Oils, granted by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment. This recognition joins a generous collection of awards obtained by the mill of El Carpio de Tajo (Toledo) during this last season.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, MAGRAMA, thus recognises the excellence of Casas de Hualdo Arbequina. It is an oil with a light grass-green colour, which appeals to the olfactory senses as fruity and mature, with tomato plant, fresh-cut grass, artichoke and, especially banana notes. It is sweet at first on the palate, fruity and soft, with medium-intensity bitterness and spiciness, and with notes which bring back the aroma of cocoa. With a light aftertaste, the judges have extolled the overall harmonious sensations and the multiple nuances it provides.
The goal of these awards is to contribute to the place added value on the highest quality Spanish olive oils as well as to encourage their producers to make them and sell them. They also seek to promote the image and market position of olive oil as well as the knowledge and assessment of sensory characteristics of EVOO among consumers.
So far this year, Casas de Hualdo has attained a large number of successes. The prestigious Flos Olei, which is the olive oil counterpart to the Parker Guide of wines, has distinguished Casas de Hualdo Reserva de Familia as one of the best 20 EVOO in its 2015 edition. In addition, it has given a 97 point rating to the single-variety Picual and the coupage Reserva de Familia. It is important to note the 2nd prize at Mario Solinas contest, given by the International Olive Council in the category Intense Green Fruity. Other international awards, just to mention some of them, have come from very diverse competitions, such as the Gold Medals at Olive Japan and Oil China, and several prizes at New York and Los Angeles competitions for both, Picual and Reserva de Familia. In Italy, Reserva de Familia achieved a Gran Menzione at Sol D’Oro de Verona and also at Orciolo d’Oro contests, and Picual and Arbequina were awarded with a Gold Medal at Monocultivar.
